The OTs took a weakened batting line-up to Malvern yesterday and lost by 193 runs to the Old Malvernians.
The wicket was wet after heavy overnight rain, and we duly put Malvern in to bat. Rather like the South African captain at Lords, it wasn't a good call. With their first wicket putting on 100, and Hardinges of Gloucestershire then making 75 off 40 balls, they closed their innings at 264 for 7.
When it was our turn the strong sunshine of the morning had made the wicket more difficult and we were soon 3 for 3. We were all out for 71 (Hammond 20, Arscott 19) and fully expect Malvern to go on and win the competition.
